Museum of Contemporary Art Basel
The Museum of Contemporary Art Basel opened in 1980 and is the first public museum in Europe dedicated to collecting artworks from 1960 to the present. It has been included in the Swiss national and regional list of important cultural properties.
Like other traditional art museums, the Museum of Contemporary Art Basel features collections of paintings and sculptures, but what sets it apart is its collection of video art, allowing visitors to experience cutting-edge art forms alongside traditional ones. The museum’s holdings include outstanding works by European contemporary artists such as Bruce Nauman, Joseph Beuys, Jeff Wall, and Rosemarie Trockel, as well as American contemporary artists like Robert Gober, Elizabeth Peyton, and Matthew Barney.
