The Museum of Cultures Basel, also known as the “Basel Folklore Museum,” is an ethnological museum in Switzerland dedicated to promoting a better understanding of Basel, Swiss, and international cultures. It has been listed on the Swiss national and regional register of significant cultural property.

Through its diverse collections and exhibitions, the Museum of Cultures Basel introduces visitors to foreign cultures and explores the similarities among different national cultures. With a collection of over 300,000 items, it is the largest ethnological museum in Switzerland and one of the largest folk culture museums in Europe, enjoying an international reputation. The collection spans Africa, Europe, the Americas, Oceania, East Asia, Central Asia, and South Asia. Highlights include ceramics, secular and religious folk art, and traditional mask-related artifacts, with a significant number of exhibits from the South Pacific and Indonesia.

In addition to a wide variety of ethnological objects, the Museum of Cultures Basel also houses more than 50,000 historical photographs, which are of great significance for cultural research.
