Basel Toy Museum

The Basel Toy Museum is located on the Barefoot Plaza in the city center of Basel, Switzerland. With a history dating back to 1867, it spans four floors above and below ground, covering an exhibition area of up to 1,000 square meters, making it the largest toy museum in Europe.

This vibrant and extensive toy museum features a collection of more than 6,000 toys, including teddy bears, dolls, carousels, and more. Among them, there are approximately 2,500 teddy bears, making it the toy museum with the world’s largest teddy bear collection. The museum also displays dolls from 1870 to 1920, produced by renowned manufacturers worldwide, mainly from France, Germany, and Japan. Carousels are one of the most distinctive collections at the Toy World Museum, with the oldest dating back to 1900. Some are models reconstructed to resemble the original carousels.

In addition to its diverse collection, the Basel Toy Museum hosts various special exhibitions each year, showcasing items not directly related to its permanent collection. These typically relate to the customs and traditions of other countries abroad, offering visitors a fresh and unique experience.
