Oberrappen Pass

The Oberrappen Pass is located in the Swiss Alps. This incredible road connects Central Switzerland to the Graubünden Highlands. It is quite popular among European drivers but is only open during the summer; in winter, it is closed and becomes a sledding track and ski run for the ski resort.

A train called the Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway carries tourists year-round to admire the mountain scenery. Due to the steep gradient, the train uses a cog system to climb. It reaches its highest point along the route — the Oberrappen Pass at an altitude of 2,033 meters — before winding through the Alpine peaks. In the direct sunlight, the small streams outside the window gradually turn into grayish-white glaciers. The train speeds along, passing many charming mountain villages, quaint wooden chalets of varying heights, all filled with the timeless charm of the Alps.
