Swiss National Park

The Swiss National Park is located in Zernez, nestled between the Engadin Valley and the Mustair Valley in eastern Switzerland. Established on August 1, 1914, it is currently the only national park in Switzerland and one of the earliest and most beautiful national parks in Europe. Covering an area of 174.2 square kilometers, its altitude ranges from 1,400 meters to 3,200 meters, making it the largest protected area in Switzerland.

The park is home to around 30 species of mammals, over 100 species of birds, and more than 650 types of plants. Its pristine natural landscape remains intact, unaffected and undisturbed by human activity. From June to August, as mountain snows slowly melt, alpine flora burst into vibrant bloom, creating an exceptional environment for sightseeing. Along the 80-kilometer network of hiking trails that traverse the park, visitors can enjoy ever-changing natural scenery and experience the boundless wonders of nature. The Swiss National Park is renowned for its untouched terrain. Here, nature takes undisputed precedence, and visitors are mere observers—restricted to marked trails. It is this strict management policy that allows wildlife to become accustomed to the presence of people, encouraging animals to venture out from their hiding spots and approach visitors.
