Eila Nature Park
This, the largest regional nature park in Switzerland, is located in the heart of the canton of Graubünden, where pristine natural landscapes, quaint villages, and UNESCO World Heritage Sites all come together. Covering 600 square kilometers of natural splendor, one-third of Eila Nature Park (near the Rhaeto-Romance area) remains an undeveloped wilderness, where towering mountains (such as Piz Lunghin) rise dramatically and rivers flow into three major lakes. There’s also the magical Alp Flix, a true biodiversity hotspot that is home to over 2,000 plant and animal species.
Historic transportation routes have shaped the cultural landscape here, with sturdy fortresses and 21 genuinely charming villages. Three cultures and three languages (German, Rhaeto-Romance, and Italian) coexist within this area, which is three times the size of a national park. The “Red Train” stands as a powerful testament to the harmony between humans and nature, with the section of the Rhaetian Railway that passes through Eila Park being part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
