The Val Müstair Valley is one of the most beautiful alpine valleys in Switzerland and a unique biosphere reserve in the world located within the Romansh-speaking region. Life in the Val Müstair Valley always goes hand in hand with nature: the valley can only be accessed from other parts of Switzerland through the Ofen Pass. Daily life here is very peaceful and isolated. The traditional mountain village scenery, charming landscapes, and the mild, sunny climate on the southern side of the valley are a huge draw for visitors.

The Rom River, which originates in Tschierv, flows through this idyllic valley all the way to the Italian border. Themed trails along the river pass through cliffs and ancient pastures once inhabited by mythical beings, offering beautiful views of Alpine flora. You can also visit the Benedictine Abbey of Saint John, an area nearby that is soon to be designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site: the Val Müstair Valley and the adjacent Swiss National Park are jointly applying to become the first official alpine biosphere reserve in the UNESCO Alpine region.
