Lausanne Cathedral is a towering Gothic cathedral situated in the heart of Lausanne's Old Town. It symbolizes the city’s image, stands as Switzerland’s largest church, and is hailed as “the most beautiful church in Switzerland.” This is the Cathedral of Notre-Dame (Cathedral of Notre-Dame), also known as “Lausanne Cathedral” (Lausanne Cathedral). The construction of this cathedral began in 1175, was completed in 1232, and in 1275, it was sanctified by Pope Gregory X.

The main portal of Lausanne Cathedral features 13th-century statues themed around biblical figures such as Moses and John. Though many colors have faded, their exquisite craftsmanship remains breathtaking. The interior of the cathedral is solemn and majestic, with many medieval frescoes preserved on the stone pillars. Among its highlights is the stunning Rose Window, whose stained glass artistry depicts cosmic imagery based on the seasons and months, intricate and awe-inspiring in its beauty.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, the cathedral underwent multiple rounds of maintenance and restoration. Entering the 21st century, further renovations were carried out, especially after 2003 when a monumental pipe organ—worthy of historical recognition—was installed. The cathedral also has a tall bell tower. Climbing the 232 steps leading to the tower rewards visitors with panoramic views of the majestic Alps, the shimmering Lake Geneva, and the entire city of Lausanne.
