Ruins of the Jin Frontier Fortifications

The ruins of the Jin Frontier Fortifications are a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Jin Frontier Fortifications (Jin Great Wall) were a defensive system built by the Jin Dynasty to guard against invasions from the increasingly powerful northern tribes such as the Mongols and Shiwei. Construction began during the Tianfu to Mingchang eras of the Jin Dynasty (1117–1195 AD) and involved five large-scale building phases.

Within Horqin Right Wing Middle Banner, there are two sections of the Jin Frontier Fortifications. The first originates from Nierji Town in Morin Dawa Banner, Hulunbuir City, and branches off as the second line from the first section leading into Xilin Gol League. The second branches off from the right bank of the Guiliu River in the lower section of Ali’erde, Horqin Right Wing Front Banner. In 2001, the entire Jin Frontier Fortifications system was designated as part of the fifth group of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units by the State Council.
