Han Chagan Mountain

Han Chagan Mountain, located five kilometers northeast of Tulemaodu Town, is one of the four major Khan Mountains in Horqin Right Middle Banner. It serves as a sacred site for the worship of Naiji Tuoyin—who was revered as the “Bogda Geghen” of the original ten banners of Jirem League for spreading Buddhism in eastern Mongolia—and his 13 disciples. The site features a total of 18 ovoos, consisting of four ovoos known as “Darqiga,” symbolizing the four corners of a courtyard, and 14 ovoos representing Naiji Tuoyin and his 13 disciples. Legend has it that after the league meetings of the ten Jirem banners, the princes and local people would come here to worship heaven and earth, conducting grand sacrificial ceremonies, hosting small-scale Naadam festivals, and engaging in recreational activities such as horse racing, wrestling, throwing bulu (a traditional Mongolian game), and archery. The sacrificial site remains active to this day, with grand ceremonies held annually on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month.

The natural landscape of Han Chagan Mountain is stunning and majestic. The mountain consists of two main peaks, eastern and western, standing side by side with a small valley in between where a stream flows year-round. Along the stream, clusters of willows thrive and various flowers bloom in profusion.

The area is covered with dense shrubs and tall trees spread across the mountains, predominantly featuring rare tree species such as Mongolian elm, black elm, and maple. It can be said to encompass all the rare tree species found in Horqin Right Middle Banner.
