Introduction Delft is a historic town located about 10 kilometers from The Hague. It was founded in 1246 and still retains charming views of ancient canals, arched stone bridges, serene countryside, and a beautiful market square. Starting from the 17th century during the Dutch Golden Age, Delft became home to numerous pottery factories, renowned worldwide for producing Delft Blue pottery. Delft also shares deep historical ties with the Dutch royal family—Prince William was assassinated here in 1584 and is buried in the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church). Delft is a truly captivating historic town, with a variety of shops, restaurants, and cozy cafés offering great options for sightseeing and leisure.

Johannes Vermeer spent his entire life in Delft. The towering spires of the Nieuwe Kerk and Oude Kerk have stood guard over the gates of Delft for centuries, and remnants of that era can still be seen today. Although Delft’s ceramics have been famous since the 17th century, only two of the original 30 pottery factories remain. Transport From The Hague Central Railway Station to Delft, the tram ride takes about 10 minutes.
