Barletta Cathedral

Barletta Cathedral is located in the southern Italian city of Barletta. Built between the 12th and 14th centuries, it is a fusion of Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles and is the most important and popular church in Barletta. The cathedral was built on the site of a temple that was dedicated to Neptune (the brother of Jupiter).

Construction of the cathedral began in the 12th century, and a tall bell tower was added by the end of that century. Later, pointed-arch windows and rose windows were also added. In the 13th century, the cathedral underwent major expansions, with some sections built in the Gothic style, and the massive project was not completed until the 16th century. The towering bell tower stands at the northern end of the cathedral and can be admired from afar. The church is adorned with numerous sculptures of animals and mythical creatures, which contribute to its sacred and solemn atmosphere.
