Brindisi is located on the coast of the Adriatic Sea and serves as the capital of the Province of Brindisi in the Apulia region. Historically, it was an important commercial and cultural center. Thanks to its location on the Adriatic, Brindisi became a key trading port with the Middle East and Greece, and it remains one of Italy’s major port cities.

Brindisi is home to numerous historical landmarks, including ancient castles, Roman-era columns, and cathedrals of various styles from different periods. The most striking building in the city is the Swabian Castle, built during the reign of Frederick II. It was used as a prison in 1813, taken over by the Italian Navy in 1909, and served as the residence of King Victor Emmanuel III during World War II. The Aragonese Castle, also known as the “Sea Castle,” was constructed in 1491 and consists of two parts, serving as a witness to history. The city also features many religious buildings, with the Brindisi Cathedral being the most iconic. Originally built between the 11th and 13th centuries and rebuilt in the 18th century, it showcases Romanesque architectural style. Other sites worth visiting include the Church of San Benedetto and the Church of the Sacred Heart.
