Agrigento is located at the central point of the southern coast of Sicily, Italy, and serves as the capital of the Province of Agrigento. Since ancient times, it has been a military stronghold guarding the Mediterranean. The city is rich in citrus fruits, olive oil, and sulfur mines, which are exported worldwide via the nearby port of Porto Empedocle.

Agrigento is a tourism center of Sicily. Although most of its buildings are modern in style, it still retains a large number of medieval and Baroque structures. The city attracts archaeologists from around the world due to its vast collection of ancient ruins and unearthed artifacts. The Valley of the Temples is a hill south of Agrigento featuring the remains of ancient Greek temples. It is home to the best-preserved group of ancient Greek temples outside of Greece and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 under the name “Archaeological Area of Agrigento.” The Temple of Juno Lacinia, built in 450 BC, measures 38.15 meters in length and 16.9 meters in height. It is a Doric peripteral structure with six columns along the sides and thirteen along the front and back, featuring a pronaos, an opisthodomos, and a base with four steps.
