Caltanissetta is located in the hilly region of western Sicily, Italy, serving as the capital of the Province of Caltanissetta. At an elevation of 588 meters, it is the sixth highest provincial capital in Italy and the second highest city in the Sicilian region.

Caltanissetta is a city abundant in historical heritage. Ancient and graceful palaces, solemn and sacred churches, large castles, 12th-century monasteries, and archaeological parks are all worth visiting. Palazzo Moncada is a grand unfinished palace whose construction began in 1635, with its façade adorned with sculptures in the shape of animals. The Church of Saint Agatha, built between 1600 and 1610, features a late Renaissance style with magnificent Baroque decorations, exuding beauty and sanctity. Additionally, the Church of Saint Sebastian and the Church of Saint Dominic, both built in the 16th century, along with the Church of the Holy Cross from the 17th century, are also worthwhile sites.
