Messina is located at the northeastern tip of Sicily, Italy, facing the Strait of Messina. It is the third-largest city on the island of Sicily and also the capital of the Province of Messina. The city was founded by ancient Greek colonists in the 8th century BC, boasting a history of over 2,800 years.

The Messina Cathedral traces its origins to the 12th century, with the current structure built between 1919 and 1920. Other must-sees include the monastery built in 1931, the cathedral from the late 12th century, and the cathedral from the early 13th century. Porta Grazia, constructed in the 16th century and once used as a fortress, has withstood over 500 years of weathering yet still retains its charm.
