Biblioteca Ambrosiana

Introduction: Established in 1603 and named after the patron saint of Milan, it was the academic and cultural hub of Milan at the time. In terms of both the breadth of its ancient book collections and their scholarly value, it ranks among the best in Italy, particularly notable for its works on Arabic and Oriental cultures. The collection centers on paintings from the Lombard and Venetian schools.

The Pinacoteca Ambrosiana was founded in 1618, and an art academy was also established in 1621. However, the academy later declined and was eventually closed in 1776. The gallery currently houses over 1,500 pieces of art, including hundreds of works by masters such as Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael.
