Former Residence Site of Liu Shaoqi on the Route

The former residence site of Liu Shaoqi on the route is located 70 meters northwest of Guojiazhuang Village, Miyazhen Township, Loufan County, covering an area of 580.16 square meters with a built-up area of 72 square meters. In December 1942, Comrade Liu Shaoqi, then Secretary of the Central China Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Political Commissar of the New Fourth Army, was on his way back to Yan'an from Huazhong, breaking through enemy lines via Shandong, southeastern Shanxi, and Taiyue regions after a long journey, finally arriving at the highway between Taiyuan and Fenyang. Yang Xiushan, political commissar of the 7th Regiment of the 358th Brigade of the Eighth Route Army, led troops to escort him. When they reached the mountainous area at the border of Jiaocheng and Loufan, Comrade Shaoqi pointed to the Loufan region and said, “This area is quite good, with a large amount of arable land.” That night, they stayed in the cave dwellings of Guojiazhuang Village. When Liu Shaoqi saw the “Jin-Sui Daily” on the table, he quickly walked over and began reading it with evident delight. At dawn the next day, Commissar Yang Xiushan received a telegram from the military district asking Comrade Shaoqi to go to the Central Sub-bureau as soon as possible. Before leaving, Comrade Shaoqi instructed them, “Work hard, study hard. Life here is very tough, so you must care more about the people’s livelihood.” He then successfully passed through the enemy lines on the highways of Lan County and Fangshan to reach Xijia Cliff in Xing County, the location of the Jin-Sui Military District and the Jin-Sui Central Sub-bureau. The former residence site is now part of a villager’s courtyard. The yard faces east and is 33.75 meters long from east to west, and 17.19 meters wide from north to south. It has a single-courtyard layout, with the main house along the central axis and wing rooms on the north side. The main house consists of three brick cave dwellings. Liu Shaoqi stayed in the middle cave, above which there is a brick-carved bracket set. In 1995, General Yang Xiushan inscribed a plaque for the site that reads “Residence Site of Comrade Liu Shaoqi on His Route.” In 2003, it was designated as a county-level cultural relics protection unit by the People’s Government of Loufan County and serves as a county-level patriotic education base.
