Auxerre is the capital of France’s Yonne department and the fourth-largest city in the Burgundy region. Located between Paris and Dijon, it is an important commercial and industrial hub in the department and is also renowned for its delicious wines.

The Gothic Auxerre Cathedral, the clock tower in the old town, and the 17th- and 18th-century Saint-Pierre Church are all must-visit sites in Auxerre. The cathedral boasts stunning stained-glass windows, while the Gothic clock tower features dials that track the movements of the sun and moon. The ancient Saint-Germain Abbey, which has existed since the 9th century, houses France’s oldest frescoes in its crypt, as well as the tombs of the Bishops of Auxerre.
