Épinal is a town in northeastern France, the capital of the Vosges department in the Grand Est region, located 60 kilometers south of Nancy, with the Moselle River flowing through the city. Émile Durkheim (Émile Durkheim), regarded as one of the three founding figures of sociology alongside Karl Marx and Max Weber, was born here.

The old town center of Épinal is particularly worth visiting, featuring the Place des Vosges, the Saint-Maurice Cathedral, ruins of a medieval castle, and Roman houses from the 11th and 13th centuries. Additionally, Épinal is known for its beautiful parks and gardens, as well as its 3,600-hectare public arboretum. The town’s specialized Picture Museum showcases the history of local printmaking and graphic production, along with many exquisite prints.
