Red Army Poplar

The Red Army Poplar is a classic destination for red tourism.

The Red Army Poplar is located in Suiguaizigou of Hanjiagou Village, Tianchidian Township, Loufan County. In March 1936, the left column of the Red Army's Eastern Expeditionary Force, led by Xu Haidong and Cheng Zihua, entered Loufan from Gujiao. When passing through Hanjiagou Village, they were attacked by an airplane of Yan Xishan’s forces. Two Red Army soldiers were hit and fell, sacrificing their lives. After the Red Army left, the villagers buried them on the hillside of Suiguaizigou behind the village, built mounds over their graves, and planted poplar trees beside the graves as markers. The local elders called these poplars the “Red Army Poplars.” For many years afterward, the local people have planted poplar trees here every year. Today, the original few poplars are no longer there, but the valley has become a forest of poplars.

Hanjiagou Village: Hanjiagou is situated in the middle and upper reaches of Tianchidian. The village has 152 households, 545

residents, 1,200 mu of arable land, 1,135 mu of returned farmland, 57

people receiving subsistence allowances, 3 households of five-guarantee recipients, and 61 elderly people receiving pension benefits. The village's economy is mainly based on

agriculture and animal husbandry.
