Nancy

Nancy is the capital of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region of northeastern France. It was once the political capital of the Duchy of Lorraine and remains the most populous metropolitan area in the region, second only to Strasbourg in northeastern France. Situated on the left bank of the Meurthe River at the confluence of the Moselle and the Marne-Rhine Canal, Nancy is the economic and cultural hub of Lorraine, home to numerous institutions such as the University of Lorraine.

Nancy is a historic city rich in art and culture. Its abundant Art Nouveau heritage, beautiful gardens, bustling Saint-Jean commercial street, leisurely open-air cafés, and repurposed bars captivate visitors from around the world. Place Stanislas, a world-renowned and exquisitely designed urban square, along with Place de la Carrière and Place d'Alliance, are among the oldest and most typical examples of modern capital design, collectively designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.

The Nancy Cathedral and the Arc de Triomphe in the old town center are prime examples of 18th-century architecture. Other must-see attractions include the Lorraine Museum, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Nancy, the Muséum-Aquarium de Nancy, the Nancy Botanical Garden, the Opéra national de Lorraine, various mansions, and numerous parks.
