Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe Church is a famous French church located in the town of Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe in the Vienne department. It is renowned as the “Romanesque Sistine Chapel.” The church houses many exquisite murals from the 11th to 12th centuries, which remain remarkably well-preserved to this day.

The entire church is 76 meters long, with the oldest structure being the cruciform nave built in the early 11th century, stretching 30 meters in length. The nave features a row of small chapels. The choir, surrounded by ambulatories, appears to be suspended within the nave. The ambulatory contains five small chapels arranged radially. The church is world-renowned for its exceptionally well-preserved large-scale murals from the 11th to 12th centuries: the altar mural depicts the martyrdom of Saints Savin and Cyprian; the apse murals illustrate the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus, as well as the rise of the Church; the porch features scenes from the Book of Revelation in the New Testament; and the 412-square-meter vault of the main hall is covered with stories from Genesis and Exodus. These grand murals showcase the artistry of medieval Christian art and hold significant cultural value.
