Angoulême Cathedral

Angoulême Cathedral is located in the French city of Angoulême and is the city's most important religious building. It is a typical example of French Romanesque architecture and serves as the cathedral of the Diocese of Angoulême.

Angoulême Cathedral was initially built in the early 4th century on the site of a temple, and the current church was constructed starting in 1110 and completed in 1128. After years of restoration, it has undergone many changes compared to the original church. The main façade of the cathedral is adorned with over 70 sculptures, centered around two main themes: the Ascension of Jesus and the Last Judgment. In addition to these themes, the façade also features carvings depicting scenes of daily life, including hunting. The interior of the church houses three large domes, with the semicircular choir occupying half of one of them.
