Angoulême

Angoulême, also translated as "Angouleme," is a city in southwestern France and the capital of the Charente department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. It is situated on a high plateau on the south bank of the Charente River, overlooking the river, and is known as the "Balcony of Southwest France." The city existed before the Roman era and is a historic city rich in cultural heritage.

The Angoulême Cathedral is the city’s most important religious building and a prime example of French Romanesque architecture, with a history dating back to the 11th century. It serves as the cathedral of the Diocese of Angoulême. In addition, there are numerous museums worth visiting, where tourists can explore the city’s history, culture, and art from ancient times to the present. Angoulême is world-renowned for the Angoulême International Comics Festival, which began in January 1974 and is held annually. It is the largest and oldest comics exhibition in Europe and, along with the San Diego Comic-Con in the United States, is considered one of the world’s two most famous comics festivals. It attracts over 200,000 visitors every year.
