Parthenay

Parthenay is a commune in the Deux-Sèvres department in western France, located about 40 km north of Niort and approximately 50 km west of Poitiers. It is also a worthwhile town to visit in the Deux-Sèvres department.

The town center of Parthenay is home to many historical sites. The ancient city walls remain intact, and the early 13th-century Saint-Jacques Bridge (Pont St-Jacques), which crosses the Thouet River, offers visitors an excellent vantage point to admire the river and distant sights. Narrow streets lined with medieval timber-framed houses, an 11th-century Romanesque church, a chapel built by the Franciscans in the 13th century, and various other architectural gems are must-see attractions. The internationally renowned Parthenay International Games Festival (Festival Ludique International de Parthenay), held every July, draws numerous visitors from far and wide.
