Baofan Temple, according to a Qing Dynasty stele, was originally built in the first year of the Xuanhe era of the Song Dynasty (1119). It underwent multiple repairs during the Jin and Yuan dynasties, and was reconstructed in the 11th year of the Chenghua era (1475), the 45th year of the Jiajing era (1566), and during the Wanli era (1573–1620). It was rebuilt again in the 18th year of the Guangxu era (1892), and the existing structures date from the Qing Dynasty.

Baofan Temple faces south and has a two-courtyard layout. The courtyards stretch 82.7 meters from east to west and 43.2 meters from north to south, covering an area of approximately 3,600 square meters. Along the central axis from south to north are, in sequence, the stage, the mountain gate, the Skanda Hall (also known as the pass-through hall), and the main hall. A side gate is located between the mountain gate and the bell and drum towers. On both sides, from south to north, are the bell and drum towers, the east and west side halls, and the east and west wing halls.

As a relatively well-preserved Qing Dynasty temple in Qingxu County, Baofan Temple is large in scale and complete in layout. The stage is situated outside the mountain gate, while the bell and drum towers, side gates, and mountain gate are aligned in a row, creating a unique layout. Its overall layout, the structural forms of individual buildings, and their artistic designs represent the construction standards of the time in the region, making it a typical example of a Qing Dynasty temple in the area. It provides physical evidence for the study of Qing Dynasty temple architecture in the region and holds high historical value.

The wooden carvings of the brackets on the mountain gate, stage, and main hall, as well as the brick carvings on the bell and drum towers, side gates, and screen walls, are exquisitely crafted with superb techniques. The murals inside the main hall are also masterpieces of art, and the colorful paintings on the beams of the various buildings are rich in content and finely executed, demonstrating high artistic value.

Baofan Temple integrates architecture, murals, and painted decorations, and is of significant cultural heritage value. It largely retains the temple layout and architectural style of the Qing Dynasty, with good authenticity and integrity in both the main structures and auxiliary relics.

Dongyu Town: Located in the southwestern part of Qingxu County, Dongyu Town borders Gujiao to the north and Jiaocheng County to the west. It stretches approximately 9 kilometers from northeast to southwest and about 15 kilometers from north to south, covering an area of 96 square kilometers. The terrain transitions from mountainous areas in the north through foothills to plains in the south. It is 44 kilometers from the provincial capital, Taiyuan, and only 8 kilometers from Qingxu County. The town administers 24 administrative villages, with a total population of over 30,000, and cultivable land area of 22,540 mu, including 14,540 mu of grape and fruit orchards and 8,000 mu of vegetable fields.
