West Edmonton Mall is located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and is the largest mall in North America and the fifth largest in the world. The mall opened in September 1981 and was the largest shopping centre in the world at the time, until it was surpassed by the Golden Resources Mall in Beijing in 2004.

Covering a total retail space of 570,000 square metres, West Edmonton Mall was built at a cost of 1.2 billion Canadian dollars. As the largest shopping mall in North America, it spans 48 city blocks and features over 800 stores, 110 restaurants, a casino, and numerous world-class attractions, including the world’s largest indoor amusement park, an NHL-sized ice rink with glass walls, the world’s largest indoor wave pool, and Sea Lion Rock where Californian sea lions perform. It also houses the Fantasyland Hotel, which has 354 rooms, including 118 themed suites.
