Thomson Hall

Thomson Hall is located in Toronto, Ontario, and opened to the public in 1982. Designed by Canadian architect Arthur Erickson along with two other designers, it serves as the main performance venue for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in Canada, where outstanding concerts are often held.

The name of Thomson Hall comes from Canadian media entrepreneur Roy Thomson, who donated 4.5 million Canadian dollars for the construction of the concert hall. The building is a rectangular high-rise structure with magnificent interior decorations, capable of accommodating 2,630 audience members. Its acoustic design meets the highest world standards. The differently colored chandeliers hanging high inside the hall serve a special purpose: adjusting the acoustics by raising or lowering the chandeliers.

Thomson Hall is one of the main venues for the Toronto International Film Festival. In addition, countless celebratory events are held here every year. The hall has also become a popular filming location for well-known movies, appearing on screen to widespread acclaim—parts of the film X-Men were shot here.
