Toronto City Hall

Toronto City Hall is located in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada, serving as the headquarters of the Toronto municipal government and also one of the city's major landmarks. The City Hall, along with the adjacent Nathan Phillips Square, was designed by Finnish architect Viljo Revell and opened in 1965, replacing the old City Hall that was completed in 1899.

Toronto City Hall consists of three parts. The two massive east and west towers curve around the central council chamber, resembling an open clamshell protecting a pearl. Its design is novel and unique. The East Tower stands 99.5 meters (326 feet) tall with 27 floors, while the West Tower is 79.4 meters (260 feet) high with 20 floors. Viewed from above, the entire structure resembles an eye, hence it is often referred to as the “—”.

The new Toronto City Hall is situated right next to the old City Hall, which has been retired and now serves as a courthouse. Its classic Richardson Romanesque stone architecture still attracts many visitors. Today, the old and new City Halls stand harmoniously side by side, symbolizing Toronto’s growth, representing both its past and the future it is moving toward. Toronto City Hall is open to the public free of charge, and every day it is visited by many local residents and tourists from around the world. In the movie "Resident Evil 2", this building appears as the setting for the Raccoon City Hall.
