Aphrodite's Rock

Aphrodite's Rock is located in Paphos, a coastal city in Cyprus, about 25 kilometers from the city center. It is a sea stack formed by erosion and is believed to be the birthplace of Aphrodite (Venus), the goddess of love and beauty, making it a world-famous tourist destination.

The coastline of Paphos is rugged, with towering cliffs and a group of strikingly prominent giant rocks. Some rise like stalagmites from the sea, others stand like massive mushrooms in the water, with the largest one reaching about 30 meters in height. This group of rocks is collectively called "Romeos," which means "rocks" in Greek. Legend has it that the goddess Aphrodite (Venus) was born from the foam of the sea nearby, hence the name "Aphrodite's Rock."

Perhaps because Aphrodite was born from sea foam, there is a local belief that childless couples who pray to the goddess of love may have their wish granted. This belief attracts childless couples from around the world, who come here to silently pray by the rocks, hoping to be blessed with a child of their own.
