Lawkananda Pagoda

Lawkananda Pagoda is a peaceful temple located in Bagan, Mandalay Region, on the banks of the Irrawaddy River. Its name means "Joyous World" and it was built in 1059 during the reign of King Anawrahta. The pagoda once enshrined a sacred tooth relic of the Buddha, and still houses a replica of it today.

The pagoda’s slender cylindrical dome is extremely eye-catching, with its gleaming golden cylinder visible from afar. In 2003, a jewel-encrusted umbrella was added to the top of the stupa, giving it an even more resplendent appearance. Lawkananda Pagoda is one of the best spots to watch the sunset and enjoy views of the Irrawaddy River, attracting visitors from around the world daily to witness the magnificent sunset and beautiful riverside scenery. Nearby, there is a restaurant that complements the pagoda beautifully, making it an ideal place for dinner while admiring the breathtaking sunset—combining great food with stunning views.
