Luang Prabang was the ancient capital of the Lane Xang Kingdom in Laos, located in a valley surrounded by mountains along the Mekong River, about 500 kilometers from the capital Vientiane. In 1995, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This charming riverside town, with its blend of traditional Lao architecture and the European urban layout left by 19th- to 20th-century colonial rulers, is a prominent example of the fusion of two distinct cultural traditions.

Mount Phousi is situated right in the center of Luang Prabang, with the Mekong River on one side and the Khan River on the other. The summit offers the best panoramic view of the ancient town. Currently, there are two paths for visitors to climb Mount Phousi. By following a winding stone staircase, you’ll find a shrine halfway up the mountain, commonly known as Wat Tham Phu Si, where many people come to offer incense. However, most visitors continue to the top to visit another temple called Wat Chom Si. It is the iconic structure at the summit, and from the temple, you can enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree view of the ancient town. The scenery is especially magical during sunset.
