Tourist guide location: West side of the southern gate of Angkor Thom. Construction period: 9th–10th century. Religion: Hinduism. Deity: Shiva. Highlights: Bakheng Temple: Built atop Bakheng Hill, it reflects the Khmer people's reverence for mountains at the time. This architectural symbol of the universe is filled with symbolic elements: 7-tiered platform: Represents the seven heavens, with the central tower at the top symbolizing the center of the universe; 108 towers: Aside from the central tower, there are 108 smaller towers across the lower six levels, representing the 108 days of the four lunar phases; 33 towers: When viewed from the central axis on any side, only 33 towers are visible, representing the 33 gods of Mount Meru. Introduction: A small hill not far from Angkor Wat, about 70 meters high, it is the only elevated viewpoint in the vicinity. To the west of the hill lies the expansive West Baray, and to the southeast, hidden within the jungle, is Angkor Wat. As one of the best spots to watch the sunrise and sunset, it gets crowded with tourists and vendors as evening approaches, bustling like a park. Tip: Purchase a 3-day or 7-day pass after 4 PM to enter the site (no extra charge), and most visitors choose Bakheng Hill to watch the sunset.
