Guide Location: 300 meters east of Preah Khan. Construction period: second half of the 12th century. Religion: Buddhism. Deity: Avalokiteshvara. Introduction Located within the Neak Pean temple in the center of the northern pool (now dried up). It consists of one large and four small pools, with the central large pool measuring 70 meters on each side and featuring a small mountain-shaped shrine. The smaller pools contain fountains shaped like an elephant, horse, lion, and human respectively. Neak Pean symbolizes the mythical "Anavatapta Lake," the source of the four great rivers in Buddhist doctrine. Its waters are believed to have healing, disaster-averting, and sin-cleansing powers.
