Chocolate Hills

The Chocolate Hills are a famous marvel on Bohol Island, consisting of more than 1,200 cone-shaped hills. Their formation has a rather mythical origin. Legend has it that in ancient times, two giants threw stones at each other, and as the rocks landed one by one on the ground, they formed thousands of exquisitely shaped conical hills. During the dry season, the grass on the hills turns brown, resembling a massive pile of chocolates—hence this mouthwatering name. Two of the hills have been developed into resort destinations, complete with accommodations, dining, viewing platforms, and recreational facilities. The hills turn chocolate-colored at the end of the dry season, which is how they got their name, while during the rest of the year they remain green. Climbing to the top of the viewing center offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Chocolate Hills. The iconic postcard image, however, is taken from near the highway close to the park entrance.

Food / Accommodation / Shopping – There are five or six shops at the foot of the Chocolate Hills that specialize in tarsier souvenirs and various handmade crafts. The adorable tarsier imagery is featured on a variety of headbands, tote bags, T-shirts, along with a wide array of ethnic ornaments—perfect for anyone who loves tarsier-themed merchandise. Transportation – Take the hourly bus from Tagbilaran’s Dao Bus Terminal to Carmen (P40), then hop on a motorcycle taxi to the Chocolate Hills viewing point (P30). Ticket / Opening Hours – Entrance fee is P10.
