Mactan-Mandaue Bridge

The Mactan-Mandaue Bridge is also known as the "First Mactan-Mandaue Bridge," because there are two bridges spanning the Mactan Strait that connect Cebu City and Mactan Island. This bridge was constructed in 1970 and completed in 1972, making it relatively early.

The Mactan-Mandaue Bridge was built during the time of Philippine President Marcos. It was designed and constructed by Filipino engineers, at a cost of 650 million pesos. The bridge spans 864 meters in length and 9 meters in width, featuring four lanes in both directions and sidewalks on both sides. It remains busy with traffic every day. The Mactan-Mandaue Bridge has made significant contributions to the economic development of Cebu City. Prior to the bridge's construction, transportation between Cebu City and Mactan Island mainly relied on ferries and boats, which were often delayed or interrupted due to weather conditions. After the bridge was built, road transport became much more convenient and efficient, greatly enhancing travel and economic exchange between the two areas.

Today, the Mactan-Mandaue Bridge has also become a popular sightseeing attraction. Restaurants, hotels, shopping centers, bars, and resorts have sprung up in the vicinity, boosting the development of tourism.
