Negev Desert

The Negev Desert region, stretching across southern Israel, covers more than half of the country’s land area. Due to its desert location, it is sparsely populated. Nevertheless, the Negev is rich in splendid history: Abraham made his home in Be’er Sheva, and caravans of Nabateans laden with treasures once passed through here, making the Negev a famous scenic area in Israel.

The Negev is divided into several regions: the Be’er Sheva–Arad Rift Valley in the north, the mountain ridge in the center, and the Arava and Eilat in the south. Although most of the year sees little rainfall and the riverbeds remain dry, making the area quite desolate, the natural scenery here is spectacular. In winter, despite limited rainfall, the Negev is covered with vibrant blooms, including striking anemones. During major storms, flash floods can occur in the riverbeds. Nowadays, the Negev has become a gateway to the desert, offering enchanting natural spots, rich historical and cultural relics, springs, and remnants of former agricultural communities. Desert tourism is booming, with visitors flocking to the Negev to explore its magnificent landscapes on foot, by bike, or in off-road vehicles.
