Gilgal Refaim Stone Circle

The Gilgal Refaim Stone Circle is located on the eastern shore of the Sea of Galilee in the Golan Heights. It is an enormous concentric stone formation, very similar to the famous Stonehenge in Scotland. This stone monument is made up of concentric circles formed by stacked stones. The center rises about 4.2 meters high, with some sections forming complete circles and others still unfinished.

The Gilgal Refaim Stone Circle is composed of four concentric circles. The outermost circle has a diameter of 160 meters and a height of 2.4 meters, making it quite large in scale. The stone circle dates back to the Early Bronze Age, approximately 3000–2700 BCE. Within the Gilgal Refaim Stone Circle, there are thousands of prehistoric dolmens—ancient megalithic tombs—that have stood here for a long time. There are only two entrances to the site. For the best view of the entire stone circle, it is recommended to observe it from the air, which allows you to take in its full form. It is said that the Golan Archaeological Museum has a 3D model of this stone circle.
