Jesus was not born into a noble royal family, nor did He grow up in a famous city, but rather in a humble home in a despised town—Nazareth. Nazareth, also transliterated as Natzaret, is a city in northern Israel, located in the historic region of Galilee. Since the Middle Ages, it has been largely inhabited by Arab Christians. Legend has it that Jesus spent His teenage years in the nearby village of Saffuriya. It is one of the Christian holy cities and is home to sacred sites such as the Annunciation Cave and Joseph’s Workshop. Nazareth currently has a population of 45,000 and boasts well-developed transportation, making it an important commercial center in the Galilee region. The residents are predominantly Arab, mostly Muslim, though there is also a significant Arab Christian community, making it the largest Arab-populated city in Israel. Nazareth is a city in northern Israel (historically, it has also been referred to as a Palestinian city due to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and border disputes), situated in the historic Galilee region at coordinates 32°42'N, 35°17'E, within a valley. The population is mainly Arab, and it serves as the primary commercial hub for Arabs in the Galilee. The Arab residents are predominantly Muslim, while the rest are mostly Greek Orthodox Christians. The Basilica of the Annunciation, built over the Annunciation Cave, is the largest Catholic church in the Middle East. Local handicrafts mainly produce holy site souvenirs. Jewish residents primarily live in the newer upper part of the city, known as Upper Nazareth. The area also hosts food industries such as a chocolate factory, as well as textile and knitting industries. It also functions as a residential area for Haifa Port City.
