Introduction Niah National Park is renowned for its massive limestone caves, which are among the most legendary and adventurous in Sarawak. Locals say, “If you haven’t visited a longhouse or explored Niah Caves, you haven’t truly been to Sarawak.” The park was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000.

Up to 60% of Niah remains unexplored, and little is known about those areas. Among the caves that have been surveyed, the most scenic ones have been developed for visitors. Deer Cave is the most spectacular of Niah’s caves, home to countless bats. Every evening, huge swarms of bats fly out of the cave in a breathtaking display. Additionally, the rock formation at the southern entrance of the cave strikingly resembles Abraham Lincoln, leaving visitors amazed.

Climbing Mount Mulu, which stands at an elevation of 2,376 meters, takes about 4 to 5 days round trip. Dining / Accommodation / Shopping The park has a youth hostel and holiday cottages. Meals are generally available at the lodgings. Accommodation is limited, so it’s recommended to book in advance in Kuching or Miri. Transportation You can take a speedboat from Marudi to Long Terawan upstream (RM32, 3.5 hours, departs at 11:00 AM), or charter a boat for RM250 per boat.

Alternatively, you can fly from Miri. The plane to Mulu has a capacity of 19 passengers, and be sure to register your return time and name after landing.
