Miri is located in northern Sarawak, bordering Brunei. It is the second-largest city in the Malaysian state of Sarawak, the capital of Miri District, and the earliest oil-producing region in Malaysia, hence also known as the “Oil City.” The city was elevated to a tourist city status in 2005, becoming Malaysia’s tenth tourist city and the only one that is not a state capital.
