Sibu is located at the confluence of the Rajang River and Igan River, making it the third-largest city in Malaysia’s Sarawak State and the main gateway to travel upstream along the Rajang River. The city is rich in both Malaysian and Chinese cultural elements, with a large population of ethnic Hokkien Chinese who contribute to its vibrant and diverse culture.

Sibu has several serene parks that offer leisure spaces for locals and visitors alike. Gutian Park is a beautifully designed park, while Hoover Park is a suburban park. In addition, there are multiple forest parks and recreational parks. Sibu Central Market is the largest outdoor market in Malaysia, featuring thousands of stalls offering a wide variety of goods—it's a great place to experience local culture and daily life. Sibu Night Market is situated in the city center and comes alive every evening from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Numerous food stalls gather here, serving a range of Malaysian and Chinese delicacies. Besides food, you can also shop for clothing, daily necessities, and handicrafts.
