Langkayan Island is located in the Sulu Sea, within the state of Sabah in Malaysia, in the northeast of Borneo. It is a relatively small island, just 15 kilometers from Sandakan, and is globally renowned for its rich marine life and opportunities to observe whale sharks.

The island is surrounded by pristine white sandy beaches, evergreen trees, and breathtaking sunsets. Its elegant and tranquil environment makes it an ideal holiday destination. With its long stretches of white beach, crystal-clear waters, and lush palm trees, the tropical vibe is even more pronounced, exuding irresistible charm. As one of Malaysia’s most famous diving spots, Langkayan Island boasts a myriad of marine species, including large schools of bigeye trevally, yellowtail scad, and barracuda—spectacular and mesmerizing sights that are a feast for the eyes. There are also groups of fish such as parrotfish with their vibrant foreheads, often swimming right up to divers or in front of them, engaging in close encounters and dancing together underwater.

Langkayan Island is one of the most well-known nesting sites in the Sulu Sea for both hawksbill turtles and green turtles. These turtles are protected by local marine conservationists, and their eggs are recorded. Once the hatchlings are born, they are released into the sea.
