Kota Kinabalu, also translated as Kota Kinabalu or Jesselton, is the capital of Sabah state in Malaysia and one of the country’s most important commercial centers. The city blends abundant natural resources with cultural heritage sites, allowing visitors to embark on a journey that combines nature and culture, experiencing the city’s diverse charm from various perspectives.

Situated in a tropical region, Kota Kinabalu boasts two of its most attractive assets: warm sunshine and pristine beaches. Visitors can enjoy both of these at the same time. In addition, diving in the waters around Kota Kinabalu is highly popular among tourists. The clarity of the South China Sea and the rich diversity of coral species in its numerous reefs offer breathtaking underwater experiences. Mount Kinabalu is a sacred site for many hikers. Known as the “Sacred Mountain” by locals, it is regarded as the resting place of the souls of the Kadazan-Dusun ancestors. Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park is Malaysia’s first marine national park, comprising five islands, each with its own unique charm. In addition to beautiful beaches and crystal-clear waters, the park is home to stunning coral formations and a wide variety of marine life.

Kota Kinabalu retains only a few historical relics, all of which are buildings from around the time of World War II, including the Atkinson Clock Tower, the World War I Memorial, the Double Six Monument, old shophouses, and the Kinabalu Guerrilla Memorial Park.
