Chuncheon Myeongdong

The Myeongdong district, which is packed with clothing, bags, shoes, jewelry stores, as well as fast-food restaurants, theaters, and nightclubs, is located in the heart of Chuncheon. Although there is no actual place called Myeongdong in Chuncheon, the area is named after the bustling and vibrant Myeongdong district of Seoul. This shopping street lies behind Chuncheon’s famous snack street—Grilled Chicken Rib Alley, and is also close to the Central Market and Chuncheon Underground Shopping Mall.

Built in 1962, the Central Market is Chuncheon’s largest agricultural market, mainly selling Hanbok and middle-aged fashion. The Chuncheon Underground Shopping Mall, on the other hand, houses over 300 shops selling clothing, bags, shoes, jewelry, and restaurants, giving off a more lively vibe than the Chuncheon Myeongdong district.

The street trees in the center of the Chuncheon Myeongdong district are trimmed into the shape of Christmas trees and were once used as the backdrop for the KBS drama Winter Sonata.
