Donglin Knot Museum

The Donglin Knot Museum is located at 11-7, Gahoe-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, and was opened in 2004 as a museum themed around "knots." Although the museum is not large, it exudes the tranquility and beauty of an old house, and its compact layout makes it feel especially warm and inviting.

The Donglin Knot Museum is divided into a knotting area and exhibition rooms. The exhibits in the display rooms include a variety of Korean knots—such as ornaments, belts, pockets, fan pendants, and tassels—that have been passed down since ancient times, as well as the materials used in knotting. These are all exquisitely beautiful, leaving visitors marveling at the ingenuity of the craft. The museum offers a “One-Day Course (Drop-in Experience)” and a long-term course lasting three months, primarily teaching basic knotting techniques and methods for tying various knots such as the double-loop knot, plum blossom knot, and chrysanthemum knot. Foreign visitors may also participate, but all courses are conducted in Korean.
