Ryoan-ji
Introduction
Ryoan-ji is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was converted into a Zen temple in 1450 from a villa that had been donated by Hosokawa Katsumoto of the Daitoku-ji family. The temple features an east-west rectangular garden. Its grounds are covered with white sand and arranged with 15 stones of varying sizes, forming a famous karesansui (dry landscape) garden. The unique placement of the stones is such that, no matter from which angle you view it, one stone always remains hidden from sight. The temple teaches the Zen principle of finding contentment in simplicity. Transportation
