Kyoto Prefectural Botanical Garden is located in Sakyo Ward in northern Kyoto, covering an area of 24 hectares. Established in 1924, it was closed after the Allied occupation in 1946 and reopened in April 1961. It is Japan's oldest public botanical garden and one of the most beloved in Kyoto.

Kyoto Prefectural Botanical Garden has become the ideal weekend getaway for Kyoto residents — a place to enjoy flowers, cultivate the mind, and relax while immersing oneself in nature. This colorful botanical garden is one of Japan’s top-tier, home to 12,000 species and a total of 120,000 plants. Its greenhouse spans 4,612 square meters and houses 4,500 species and 25,000 plants, truly making it an ocean and world of flowers. The vibrant blooms and the backdrop of continuous mountain ranges add endless poetic charm to the garden. Brilliant tulips on the central flower beds of the garden create a magnificent, fragrant, and luxurious plaza; pink cherry blossoms pile up layer upon layer, resembling a sea of clouds glowing crimson under the morning sun, forming the most beautiful cherry blossom world.

Strolling through the garden, you’ll find 70-year-old zelkova trees standing tall and proud along the main avenue. The lush, mature tree-lined areas are majestic, displaying ever-changing colors with the shifting seasons.
