Nintoku-tennō-ryō Kofun

Introduction

The Nintoku-tennō-ryō Kofun is located in Sakai, a satellite city south of Osaka. Built in the early 5th century during Japan’s Nintoku period, it stretches 486 meters in length and stands 36 meters high. Including three wide moats, the tomb complex covers a total area of 464,000 square meters, and is renowned worldwide for its age, grandeur, and magnificence. The burial goods inside the coffin include bronze mirrors, jade artifacts, and other items once exclusively owned by the Japanese imperial family, as well as samurai gold swords and various precious pieces of jewelry. Tip: There are three great imperial mausoleums in the world—the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor in China, the Pyramid of Khufu in Egypt, and the Nintoku-tennō-ryō Kofun in Japan.
